Physician Assistant

“PA” is an abbreviation often used that stands for Physician Assistant.  Other common terms used are “Physician Assistant”, “PA”, or “PA-C (physician assistant – certified)”, which may be used in verbal or written communication.  The traditional term, Physician Assistant, is a medical provider who works under the supervision of a licensed doctor (an MD) or osteopathic physician (a DO).  They must have at least a bachelor’s degree and complete a PA training program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).  Physician assistants work under the supervision of physicians to evaluate patients, diagnose and treat medical problems, order and interpret diagnostic testing, and provide medical advice and counseling to patients.  They also assist in surgery, perform minor surgical procedures independently, and have prescribing rights in all 50 states.  The Physician Assistants employed by Moore Orthopaedic Clinic are certified by the NCCPA and licensed by the South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners.
