Massage Therapy Services

The Moore Clinic is pleased to introduce Massage Therapy as a new service for our patients.  Whether you are one of our student-athletes, post-surgical patients or just someone looking to relieve a little stress, massage therapy may be just what you need to begin feeling better!

Massage Therapy is the treatment and practice of soft tissue manipulation with a physical and functional purpose.  It has been shown to decrease anxiety and to increase white blood cell count.  Massage Therapy has also been proven to be helpful in decreasing blood pressure in people with hypertension, alleviating pain in migraine sufferers and improving alertness and performance in office workers.  The Massage Therapists at the Moore Clinic work in concert with our physicians, rehabilitation therapists and athletic trainers to ensure the most appropriate treatment.

Types of Massage

For general wellness and stress relief, we offer the Swedish massage technique.  Credited to Per Henrik Ling, Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage.  This type of massage has been shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.

For musculoskeletal maintenance or injury we offer Neuromuscular massage. Neuromuscular massage (NMT), made popular by Paul St. John, is an intense form of bodywork that consists of focused, concentrated massage on one specific area of the body. The pressure may continue for a period of up to thirty seconds at a time, and is designed to alleviate tension that extends from a “trigger point” into an entire muscle.  Neuromuscular massage has proven to reduce chronic pain, increase range of motion, and correct postural distortions.
