Moore Athletic Trainers

 

Athletic trainers are health care professionals who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and sport-related illnesses. They prevent and treat chronic musculoskeletal injuries from sports, physical and occupational activity, and provide immediate care for acute injuries. Athletic trainers offer a continuum of care that is unparalleled in health care.

 

 

Chris Greenleaf MS, ATC, SCAT, CSCS

Chris came to Moore Clinic in 2006 as the clinic’s first Community Outreach Athletic Trainer to provide primary athletic training coverage, and kicked off the Moore Clinic Athletic Training and Community Outreach Program, of which he is now the Director. Since taking this position, the program has expanded from two athletic trainers and two schools, to a staff of 17 athletic trainers and 15 high schools and two colleges.

Native to South Carolina, Chris attended Charleston Southern University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He then went toMiddleTennesseeStateUniversityto obtain a Master of Science degree. While pursuing a college education, Chris was already hard at work. Chris began his career at theUniversityofNew Orleansas an assistant Athletic Trainer covering Men’s Athletics. He moved on toTennesseeto work atUniversityMedicalCenterin the Metro Nashville area while perusing his degree. In 2001, he returned to his Alma Mater of Charleston Southern to become the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Director for Medical Services. From there he went on to become the Clinical Director of Rehabilitation at a private Physical Therapy office inCharlestonand served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Charleston Sandsharks Arena Football team.

Chris resides in Lexington with his wife Courtney and their son, Kellen.

 

Robert Ingle, MS, ATC, SCAT

Robbie joined the Moore Clinic/Providence Hospitals staff in 2007 with a background of seven years of experience in the field of Athletic Training to include clinical, high school and collegiate settings. Prior to joining our staff, he served as a Rehabilitation Technician/Clinical Outreach Athletic Trainer in a physical therapy setting, working outreach as an Assistant Athletic Trainer forCokerCollege where he would later serve as the Head Athletic Trainer. He then went on to work for a hospital based outreach program and was responsible for covering three high schools in the Chester County school district.

Coming from a military family, Robbie moved around a lot as a child, but settled here in South Carolina. He graduated fromSpring ValleyHigh School and then went on to attend Charleston Southern University where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology/Athletic Training in 2003. In 2005 he graduated fromOldDominionUniversitywith a Masters of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training.

Robbie resides in Lexington with his wife, Courtney. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, soccer, and Ultimate Frisbee.

 

Jim Riser, MS, ATC, SCAT

Jim joined the Moore Clinic/Providence Hospitals family in May 2008 to become the Head Athletic Trainer atDreherHigh School, and brought with him 25 years of athletic training experience to include field work at the high school, college, and professional levels in several different states, as well as teaching in the academic realm. He earned his Bachelors degree fromNewberryCollege, where he would later serve as the Head Athletic Trainer, and obtained his Masters degree fromIndianaStateUniversity.

Residing in the Newberry area, he and his wife Amy have two children, a son and daughter, and open their hearts and home to Foster children in need.

 

Jane Steinberg, MA, ATC, SCAT, CES

2010 marks Jane’s 32nd year as an athletic trainer and she considers herself both a practitioner and educator. She is currently in her sixth year inColumbia, assigned toBenLippenSchool. Prior to this, she was employed as the Clinical Coordinator of the USC Athletic Training Education Program and taught various undergraduate courses. On weekends from 2004 – 2009, she provided medical coverage for various high schools, small colleges and community teams inColumbia.

Spending 22 years in Tennessee, Jane has been the Program Director at Carson-Newman College (2000 – 2004), Head Athletic Trainer at Tusculum College (1997 – 2000), Outreach Coordinator at Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic (1989 – 1997) and Head Athletic Trainer for the Tennessee Lady Vols (1982 – 1989). She taught athletic training courses at theUniversityofTennesseeinKnoxvillefor seventeen years. She began her career as Assistant ATC atBowling GreenStateUniversity(1980 – 1982).

Jane has served the NATA as both member and Chair of the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award sub-committee. She received the NATA Service Award in 1996 and the MDAT award in 2006. She has served the Board of Certification for over ten years as a reviewer of home-study courses.

The Tennessee Athletic Trainers’ Society inducted Jane into their Hall of Fame in 1997 and awarded her the Sports Medicine Person of the Year in 1994.

A graduate of Central Michigan University in 1978, Jane received her Masters degree from Michigan State University in 1980. She credits her mentors, Ken Kopke and Clint Thompson – both NATA Hall of Fame members – for igniting her passion for the profession of athletic training.

 

Marty Travis, MS, ATC, SCAT  

As one of our newest team members, Marty joined Moore Clinic/Providence Hospitals in April 2010 to serve as the primary Athletic Trainer at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, after working previously as an outreach Athletic Trainer in Orangeburg, SC.In addition to his role as a primary Athletic Trainer at the high school he will also provide outreach services to other high schools in the surrounding Orangeburg area to include Calhoun, Bamberg and Allendale. He brings to the team 25 years of Athletic Training experience in high school and college athletics. He has served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Western State College, Emory and Henry College, Pfeiffer College and the College of Charleston, volunteered his services in the 1987 Pan American Games, and has spoken at various sports medicine and coaches clinics.

Marty graduated from the College of Charleston in 1983 with a Bachelor’s degree and in 1985 obtained his Masters of Science with a specialization in Athletic Training from Indiana State University. He currently resides in Charleston with his wife, the former Leigh Ervin.

 

Brian Blackburn, ATC, SCAT

Native to the state ofMichigan, Brian came toColumbia in 1999. In 2006 he joined the Providence Hospitals/Moore Clinic Outreach Program to provide athletic training services toBlythewoodHigh School. Prior to joining this team, he worked in the clinical setting at Healthsouth in Florida and Columbia, provided outreach services to Lugoff-Elgin, Dreher, and Airport High Schools, and was also employed by Brookland-Cayce High School as a teacher/athletic trainer.

Brian attendedCentralMichiganUniversity. He graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine.

In his personal time, Brian enjoys golfing, playing softball, and helping coach his son’s baseball team. He is married to Amy, an English teacher at White Knoll High School, and they have two children, Zachary and Olivia.    

 

Niki Ferguson, MS, ATC, SCAT

“My favorite thing about being an athletic trainer is how no two days are the same. I enjoy the opportunity to watch many different types of sports and help the athletes be the best they can be.”

Niki has been an employee of Providence Hospitals since February 2006. She began her employment by providing “as needed” athletic training coverage for the Hospital on a part-time basis while teaching full-time atLexingtonHigh Schooland serving as the Assistant Athletic Trainer. In August 2007 she leftLexingtonHigh Schoolto fill a full-time athletic training position atProvidencein the Clinical Outreach Program and is now providing supplemental coverage atLugoff-ElginHigh School. She is also a certified Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor for the American Heart Association and is responsible for keeping the staff CPR/AED certified.

As a die-hard Buckeye fan, it is no surprise that Niki obtained her bachelor’s degree in Sport and Leisure Studies fromOhioStateUniversityin 2002. She relocated toColumbia,SCto attend theUniversityofSouth Carolinawhere she received her master’s degree in Physical Education.

In her free time, Niki enjoys traveling and participating in triathlons.

 

Rachel Geoghegan, MHRD, ATC, SCAT

Rachel joined the Moore Clinic/Providence Hospitals team in June 2010 to provide clinical outreach Athletic Training services to Newberry College where she had previously served as the Assistant and Acting Head Athletic Trainer.

Native toSouth Carolina, Rachel graduated fromChapinHigh Schoolwhere she volunteered as a student Athletic Trainer. She pursued her formal education here in her home state, attendingErskineCollegewhere she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training in 2006. From 2006 – 2008 Rachel attendedClemsonUniversitywhere she obtained a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development while working as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer.

 

Julie Sandy, MS, ATC, SCAT

Julie joined the team in July of 2006 and since beginning her service with us she has provided supplemental athletic training coverage atSpring ValleyHigh Schoolas well asRidgeViewHigh Schooland several middle schools athletic events.

Originally from Indiana and an avid sports enthusiast, Julie attendedIndianaUniversitywhere she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training. She then moved on to Georgia Southern University and earned a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training. While completing her master’s degree, Julie was awarded a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Research and Education Foundation Osternig Master’s Research Grant for her master’s thesis. At the National Athletic Association Annual Clinical Symposium inAtlanta, in June 2006, a case study of one of Julie’s former athletes was presented. She will present the results of her research at a future NATA Clinical Symposium.

 

Jason Wimberly, MS, ATC, SCAT

Jason has been a member of the Moore Clinic/Providence Hospitals staff since 2006. He started with the team providing as-needed coverage for a variety of community and recreational events, and became a full-time member of the team in April 2010, bringing with him six years of Athletic Training experience in the high school, Division I collegiate athletics, clinical and industrial rehabilitation settings. He will be providing primary Athletic Training coverage toOrangeburg-PreparatorySchool.

Native toSouth Carolina, Jason attendedClemsonUniversityand earned his Bachelors of Science in Health Science. He then attended theUniversityofNorth CarolinaatGreensboroand obtained a Master’s of Science in Athletic Training.

 

April Aldrich, MS, ATC, SCAT

 

One of the newest members of our team, April joined the staff in June 2010 bringing with her three years of experience. She previously worked for Greenville Hospital System providing primary Athletic Training coverage atWadeHamptonHigh Schooland returned toColumbiafor the purpose of joining the Moore Clinic/Providence Hospitals Outreach Program.

Originally fromAlma,MI, April attendedMichiganStateUniversitywhere she earned a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training. She relocated toSouth Carolinato attend theUniversityofSouth Carolinaand obtained her Masters in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training.

 

Kate Benedict, MS, ATC, SCAT

  

Kate joined the Moore Clinic/Providence Hospitals Outreach staff in June 2011 and will be the Head Athletic Trainer at Richland Northeast High School.  She brings with her two years of athletic training experience at the collegiate division I and high school levels. Originally from Cleveland, OH, Kate attended the Ohio State University where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training.  She then attended the University of South Carolina and received her Masters of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training.

 

TJ Marsh M.Ed, ATC, SCAT, EMT-P

TJ joined the Moore Clinic/ Providence Hospitals staff of Athletic Trainers in August 2010 providing supplemental coverage at Gilbert High School, and Special Event Medical Coordinator for Moore Clinic. 

A native of Georgia, TJ graduated from The University of Georgia in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Education concentration in Pre-Athletic Training. She moved on to Northwestern State University in Louisiana to complete a Master of Education in Sports Administration in 1997. TJ added Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic to her professional credentials in 2003 from Tennessee Technological University. Supplementing her 14 years of experience, additional credentials include:
