High School Physicals: What a turnout! - 5/18/09

 

On Saturday, May 9th at Moore Clinic's Ambulatory Surgery Center in Lexington, just over 900 student-athlete's went through pre-participation sports screenings in preparation for the fall high school sports seasons.  With over 80 volunteers (including staff physicians, medical assistants, therapists and trainers), the student-athletes were all seen in just under 6 hours from start to finish.

The Moore Clinic has been providing pre-participation sports physicals for a number of years now, but this turnout surpassed all previous years.  All schools combined, Moore Clinic physicians have now performed over 1,800 high school pre-participation physical screenings since March of this year with all monies donated back to each high school's sports medicine or athletic training department.  A special thank you to all Moore Clinic staff, volunteers, and school representatives for making this year one of the best ever!

The Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement - 3/30/09

Dr. Earl McFadden, upper extremity specialist at the Moore Clinic, will be speaking at Providence Hospital's downtown location on Thursday, June 18th from 7-8 pm.  The topic of this information session for the community is "Non re-pairable rotator cuffs - The Reverse Shoulder now an option for Treatment." 
 
Dr. McFadden is one of only a few surgeon's nationwide performing this cutting-edge procedure and he will be discussing the 'ins & outs' of the procedure including who might be a candidate for the surgery, what to expect during the surgery, and post-operative care.

Annual Sports Medicine Symposium - 2/1/09

The Moore Orthopaedic Clinic, in collaboration with University Orthopaedics, hosted the 11th Annual Sports Medicine Symposium entitled Update in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine 2008 on December 5th and 6th.  Over 175 healthcare providers, ranging from physical therapists, occupational therapists, physician assistants, athletic trainers, and including 20 physicians, attended this year’s event.  Moore Clinic staff presented much of the topics discussed and speakers included Dr. Frank Noojin, Dr. Earl McFadden, Dr. Wendell Holmes, Dr. Bret Smith, Greg Mangione, PA and Shannon Hill, ATC.  This year’s symposium was held at the Columbia Convention Center in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.  CME’s and CEU’s were provided for the majority of the healthcare providers in attendance.  The event kicked off Friday night with a dinner and round table discussions, including several State senators, on the importance of athletic trainers in the high school setting and whether or not South Carolina High Schools should be required to fund school supported athletic trainers.

Moore Clinic sponsors USMC Mud Run - 10/6/08

On Saturday, September 20, The Moore Clinic sponsored the 15th annual USMC Mud Run in Columbia, SC.  The event included 1200 teams this year which doubles the attendance from last year. The event was a huge success this year with only a few significant injuries out of the 4,000-plus participants. Dr. Smith is a Foot & Ankle surgeon who trained at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and did his fellowship training at the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center in Columbus, Ohio.  Dr. Smith is now taking patients.

 

 

Saturday "Black and Blue" Clinics are now in full swing - 8/22/08

 

Moore Clinic is proud to serve our student athletes and their families through our "Black and Blue" clinics that are held each Saturday from 8:00am - 11:00am during football season.  It is our commitment to see our student athletes within 48 hours of an injury in order to begin the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation process as soon as possible.  These clinics allow players with non-emergent injuries during the week (especially Thursday or Friday) to come in and be evaluated by a Sports Medicine physician so that they do not have to wait an entire weekend to be seen.  Click here for more information! 

Moore Clinic invades Carowinds! - 7/28/08

 

On Saturday, July 19th, over 180 of Moore Clinic's staff and family loaded up and took a trip up to the North Carolina and South Carolina border to enjoy a day of sun and fun at Carowinds Amusement park.  Each year, the clinic hosts a summer luncheon for staff and their families to fellowship together and this year Carowinds was the host site!  The bus pulled out about 7:45am and arrived at the park just as the gates opened.  After a full day of riding rides, lounging in the lazy river, and a buffet-styled complementary lunch, the gang headed back home around 5:00pm.  A big thank you to the physicians and staff that supported and coordinated this wonderful day!

9th Annual Sports Medicine Invitational - 7/1/08

 
The 9th annual Moore Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Golf Tournament was held on June 10th at Woodcreek Farms.  This tournament is hosted each year by the Moore Clinic as a token of appreciation for the hard work and dedication area coaches and athletic trainers give to the sports community.  The Sports Medicine Invitational is a way of saying “Thank You!” for all that these men and women do.  In all, 136 golfers total golfers, ranging from vendors, reps, physicians, therapists, athletic trainers and coaches, were hosted.  The weather could not have been any better!  All tournament sponsors were extremely generous with their donations and gifts, allowing the clinic to raise upwards of $10,000.00; more money than had ever been raised before.  This sets a wonderful standard, and goal to improve on, for the 10th Anniversary tournament (taking place next year). The winners of the tournament were Dr. Noojin’s team with first place in the “Professionals Division” and for the second year in a row, Dutch Fork High School’s coaches took first place in the “Coaches and Athletic Trainers Division.” 

Sports Medicine Team Covers SCVarsity Combine - 5/7/08

On Saturday, May 3rd, The Moore Clinic sports medicine team (consisting of seven staff) covered S.C.Varsity.com’s All State High School Football Combine at White Knoll High School in Lexington, SC.  This combine, the only one of its kind in the state, is the premier high school athletic testing event in South Carolina. It allows for the top football players in the Palmetto state to see where they stand with their peers and provides to them unbiased and objective statistics from respected professionals in the sports performance training industry.   The testing protocol includes testing each participant’s 40-yard dash time, Pro Shuttle time, Vertical Leap, Bench Press, height and weight, and position skills testing.  The system used was developed by SCVarstiy.com founder Jim Baxter and Athlete's Arena's Josh Ortegon.
 
The Moore Clinic sponsored this event to allow for all 315(+) athletes to be able to participate FREE of charge, and also provided medical coverage in the event of a sports-related injury or illness.  Moore Clinic staff in attendance was Dr. Wendell Holmes, Dr. Craig Burnworth, Robbie Ingle, Chris Greenleaf, Lyndsay Pickens, Susan Buol, and Matt Frick.  For more information about SCVarsity.com, visit their website at http://scvarsity.rivals.com/.

Moore Clinic on "Live with Lucas" - 4/2/08

Dr. Frank Noojin, III and the sports medicine team were featured on "Live with Lucas" on Monday, March 24th to discuss the risks associated with participating in school sponsored wrestling.  Another topic was the danger that many children face when carrying that wrestling and 'rough-housing' a step further and actually mimicking what the trained professionals of the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) do.  In collaboration with WWE superstar Ric Flair, the Moore sports medicine team discussed these risks and the importance of taking the proper precautions when participating including close parent supervision and the use of safety equipment.
